Useful fire safety practice

When you run a business or a residential leisure side it is vitally important to make sure that you have fire safety in place.  The most prominent concern is that no one is left behind in the building should a fire alarm sound.   The first thing that employees should do is leave the building immediately.  You should try to foster a culture where they do not pick up any belongings first and just get out.  If you have a building with stairs then evacuation lifts should be made ready for anyone with a disability and Fire marshals should be aware of that person and their specific needs.

If you are the type of business that receives a lot of visitors and people coming into the business for meetings and other visits then there is a very focused need for you to have a Visitor sign in system. A Visitor Management System can be a lifesaver, literally, as it will record everybody who is in the building at the time.  If there is a fire it means that when people assemble at the evacuation point you can see who is there and who is not.  If they have not signed out of the building correctly then it will register as them still being inside.  This means that members of the fire service will have to go back into the building to see if they are there.

Clearly marked evacuation points, well away from the building, are needed so that staff and visitors have somewhere to go if there is a fire.
